Born into a Swiss-Iranian Family, Samim was exposed to a wide range of musical influences throughout his life. Soon after discovering his passion for electronic music through Hip hop and Industrial music, he started to develop and enhance his renowned syncopated patterns and hypnotic rhythms. From a young age on, Samim started releasing original music & remixes on labels like Circus Company, Moonharbour, Tuningspork, Get Physical, Highgrade, Crosstown Rebels, Maddecent and Dirtybird and released two albums under the brands Bearback and Fuckpony.
After extensive touring, Samim was back in his home-base. His new album Flow had just been released and was rapidly becoming a runaway phenomenon, receiving support from underground and mainstream outlets alike. Shortly after it’s release the lead single Heater had received millions of YouTube views and hundreds of fan-remixes had started to appear online. The songs culture-blending approach resonated with global web culture and had started a community movement. Consecutively Heater entered the charts in countries across the world, peaking at number 11 in the official UK charts and was chosen as the song of the EUFA Euro Championship (Feel the rush feat. Shaggy).
In the aftermath of Heater, Samim decided to focus on novel approaches and founded the crashroots.com project. Whilst traveling it had became clear to him that there was a new global musical community emerging which was borderless and genre-boundaries spanning in nature. The goal of crashroots.com was to be part of this conversation and accelerate the process of crashing different musical roots together. Samim composed and uploaded a new song every week, free to download (Creative Commons), including the musical-stems. The community (5000 registered users / 120 active contributors / 200,000 downloads) quickly responded. Over the course of a year, hundreds of remixes and original compositions were contributed, which was the starting point of many engaging conversations and friendships.
The Crashroots.com experience was transformative for Samim and shaped his musical vision and approach. Now he was gearing up for the next evolution of the project: the Crashroots album. While the music of Crashroots.com was often sample based, it was becoming clear that the album would required a different approach: the Crashroots Band. The search for a group of seasoned musicians quickly succeeded and the band meet in Berlin for a series of recording sessions. The resulting album will be released in late 2011.
Besides his musical endeavors, Samim is the co-founder & creative director of the video game startup company 2beats which is currently developing MokMok, a unique new online music game experience for Web, PC, Mac & IPad.
