London based DJ and Producer Rob Mello has recorded, produced, and remixed a diverse catalogue of releases since 1992. Previously Rob has been responsible for… the pioneering disco house duo “Disco Elements”, signed to Azuli Records, co-founder of the saucy house label Luxury Service and also produced the first Black Science Orchestra single with Ashley Beadle, “Where were you”, released on the legendary London house label, Boys Own. Rob appeared regularly on Classic Records for 10 years. He is also “Heaven and Earth” alongside Luke Solomon and Zaki Dee who released “Prescription Every night” on Chez Damier and Ron Trent’s Prescription Records hailing from Chicago. This was later released again in 2009 on Running Back records. Early 2010 after doing many remixes for Crosstown Rebels, Rob released his first artist single for them. Rob also has his own imprint “Disco 45″ which has released music by Robert Owens, Mugwump, Lil Mark, Luke Solomon and Jonny Rock (Freaks) and is about to embark on a new label with old time partner Zaki Dee. This will encompass everything wonderful that they brought to Luxury Service.
Rob has also made the move into film score work. In 1999 Rob, with Matthew Herbert, wrote all the incidental music on the UK club culture movie, ‘Human Traffic’ for which they were nominated for a BAFTA.
Rob has been DJing since 1985 and has pioneered his own style that is much in demand all over the world. Back in the 80′s Rob wanted to learn everything about his art so what better then to build his own sound system from scratch – taking influences from the reggae sound systems of the day. He was soon to be found playing blues parties, Notting Hill carnival and warehouse raves where he honed his skills DJing alongside Ashley Beedle and the Shock Sound System – playing clubs and raves around London. In the 90′s Rob had his own show on Girls FM,
played regularly at the legendary Space club at Bar Rhumba, “Friday’s r’ Firin” at Plastic People, had a 10 year residency at the End nightclub with Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon and a 5 year residency at the T Bar in London.
